How I Bought A Mercedes Sports Car, Living In A Rented Room With My Family of 6

What is your dream car? Is it a Ferrari? Is it a Porsche? Is it a Rolls Royce?

For most people, they believe that their dream cars are ‘dream’ cars, meaning cars that they will only drive when they are dreaming. “It would never happen”, they say. “Dream cars are just some idea for ordinary people to envy the rich. I will never be rich.”

Are you guilty of having these thoughts?

Hi, I’m the Young CEO. Let me tell you about my dream car. My dream car is a Mercedes Benz SLK. In case you do not know what that is, here’s a picture of it.

Not bad car right? I sure think so too!

Let me let you in on a secret. I am a proud owner of one. Can you imagine how happy I was when I managed to buy one? Imagine how happy you would feel if you get your dream car, be it a Ferrari, Porsche, or a Rolls Royce.

You might be thinking (like most of the people who see my car), ” Wah! This car nice sia! Sure very expensive. Must be some middle age CEO or something.” Then when they see me walk out, they will immediately think, “Confirm parents money. This spoilt brat.”

Let me tell you this, I’m neither middle-aged nor did I use my parents money to buy my dream car!

Let me share with you my story…

Lesson 1: Your dream car can be a reality; it’s not only a dream.

The Tom, Dick, Harry Story

I was brought up in a poor family. Up until I was 10, my family of six rented a room from my grandmother and stayed there. It was a small HDB flat and six people were living in one room. Can you imagine how cramp it was? Imagine what its like to live in a foreign workers hostel. That’s how bad it was.

When I was 20, I decided that I do not want to work 30 to 40 years of my life and still barely scraping by. I do not want to follow my parents’ footsteps.

I searched everywhere for a way to earn money. I tried to buy used handphones, repair them and then resell. I tried MLM (multi-level marketing), high yield investment schemes (in other words, a scam), article writing, etc. All of which didn’t make me money. I lost more than $4,000 doing all these.

After searching for a while, I found my key to success, an online business model which I managed to chance upon. I asked my mother for $1,500 to buy a laptop for university and to start this business. My mother had to take an installment plan to pay for the laptop, $50 a month. I felt really bad and wanted to make this business work so badly so as not to disappoint my family and waste my mother’s hard earned money.

The Tough Life of an Entrepreneur

Times were really tough when I first started. Many hours of researching, trying to figure out how to best do this business. I spent the first few months just researching, reading about everything and anything that I can find about this business. I would spend close to 12 hours a day doing this.

Not only that, I had school tutorials to do, notes to read, textbooks to study.  I barely have enough sleep every day. Try to remember how it was like when you were studying in university. Try to remember how much time you had, especially during the exam period. Not much time right? Now imagine what it was like for me. It was really tiring and I was burnt out to the maximum. But I refused to give up because I knew what I wanted in life, and that is to not apply for a job after I graduate from school.

After months of struggling in my business, I finally had some progress. I started to earn my first $1,000 for a month. I know it’s not a lot of money but try to put yourself in my shoes, the shoes of a 22 year old university student.

Not bad isn’t it? Most of my friends are not earning anything while I’m making $1,000 a month.

This got me thinking. “If I can earn $1,000 a month, why not $2,000? Why not $10,000?”

I went on to find ways to grow my business until I was earning $2,000 a month. Slowly, I was earning $10,000 a day.

Wow! I haven’t even graduated and yet what I’m earning in a day is about 3 times more than what a fresh graduate would earn in a month!

The Unexpected Turn

You might think, life was good for me and would remain so right? I sure thought so back then. However, as the saying goes, life is not always a bed of roses.

My father unfortunately contracted H1N1 and passed away soon after. My family was depressed. I was devastated. I don’t think you can understand how much pain the death of my father brought to my family and I. I highly respected my father. To me, he was the greatest man ever, the best dad. Losing him created a void in my heart. It was so bad that I almost wanted to give up in life. I had no heart for my business at that moment and it too went downhill, I lost everything that I had build up.

After grieving for some time, I decided to pull myself together and move on in life. I mean, wouldn’t that be what my father want for me? I decided to complete my degree and restart my business.

Lesson 2: Never be complacent. Nothing is forever.

The Upside of Life

A few months later, my business was stable again. The first person I shared this with was Huey Chun. (You can read his story here: link). We decided to be partners and started coaching people. From a class of just 1 person, it grew to 2, then 10, then 30 and now, 70.  Now I’m proud to say that Huey (lead trainer) and I have trained more than 1,000 students globally.

Imagine you have unlimited cash. What would your life be like? Travelling all over the world? Luxury Cars? Huge bungalow? Living on a beach?

These are all possible if you know how. Not only that. This is all possible before you even turn 30 years old! I’m a prime example that these are possible.

Doing this business has brought a lot of joy to my life. I bought my first car when I was 23, my first condo when I was 24 and my Mercedes sports car (above) when I was 26. At 27, I bought a house with my soon-to-be wife. At 28, I bought a house in Malaysia.

I’m not telling you all these to brag. I’m sharing with you my story to tell you a simple truth. Not everyone that is currently rich was always rich. I went from living in a small room with 5 other people, to now owning a total of 3 houses, from dreaming about a millionaire lifestyle to actually living it.

Lesson 3: Dreams do come true. Don’t give up on them
